Empowering Youth Through Cyber Awareness and Digital Responsibility
The Cyber Society of India (CySI) – Coimbatore Chapter organized a Cyber Crime Awareness Programme on 14th October 2025 at Sree Sakthi Engineering College (SSEC), Coimbatore, in collaboration with the Department of Emerging Technologies. The event aimed to educate students and faculty members on the growing challenges of cyber threats and the importance of adopting safe and responsible digital practices.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Mr. Dinesh Kannan, followed by the Presidential Address delivered by Dr. G. Jayaprakash, Principal of SSEC, who emphasized the increasing need for cyber vigilance in the present digital era.

The event was formally inaugurated by lighting the Kuthuvilakku by Dr. M. Umasankar, President, CySI – Coimbatore Chapter, in the august presence of dignitaries and faculty members. Dr. N. Prasannan, CEO of SSEC, honoured the Chief Guest and the CySI Coimbatore Chapter President, while Prof. P. Malarvizhi, Dean, and Dr. S. Gokuldev, Dean (CSE), jointly honoured the CySI Coimbatore Chapter Secretary with a memento and shield.

Mr. Balu Swaminathan, President, Cyber Society of India, and Former Additional Superintendent of Police, delivered the keynote session on “Cyber Crime Awareness and Preventive Measures.” He shared real-life case studies, highlighting the modus operandi of cyber offenders and offered practical safety tips for secure online behaviour.

The second session was conducted by Ms. Vedha Venkatachalam, Secretary, CySI – Coimbatore Chapter, on “Cyber Alertness in All Walks of Life,” where she stressed the importance of digital discipline, awareness of cyber laws, and individual responsibility in maintaining online safety.

Over 200 participants—comprising students, faculty members, and coordinators—participated enthusiastically, engaging in an interactive Q&A session and seeking clarity on cybercrime reporting procedures and data protection mechanisms.

The event was meticulously coordinated by Ms. R. Mohana Santhiya, Assistant Professor, Department of Emerging Technologies, along with student coordinators Mukesh, Jeevanandhan, Dineshkumar, and Aruvasaga Chiththan. Mr. Samuvel Britto introduced the Chief Guest, and the event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Mukesh, appreciating the speakers, management, and participants for their active involvement.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with requests for more such awareness sessions to strengthen cyber literacy among youth.

The programme was a grand success, furthering CySI’s mission to foster cyber safety, awareness, and responsible digital citizenship among students and educators in Coimbatore.
