On 19th April 2025, the Cyber Society of India, in collaboration with the Coimbatore City Police, successfully conducted the Cyber Crime Awareness Session and officially launched the CySI Coimbatore Chapter at Sri Aarvee Hotels, Conference Hall, Coimbatore.

Cyber Society of India Launches Coimbatore Chapter to Strengthen Cybercrime Awareness Across Tamil Nadu
The Cyber Society of India (CySI) has expanded its presence in Tamil Nadu with the inauguration of its Coimbatore District Chapter, reinforcing its mission to promote cyber safety and digital literacy across the region. This strategic initiative aims to empower communities with essential knowledge to navigate the digital landscape securely and responsibly.

The chapter was formally inaugurated by Dr. B. Ilango, Former Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, who served as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Dr. Ilango highlighted the need for reinforcing cultural and moral science education for children under five, drawing parallels with the Japanese education model and India’s ancient Gurukula Kalvi system. He emphasized that instilling ethical values at an early age is vital to shaping responsible digital citizens and curbing criminal tendencies.

The event saw the presence of key CySI leaders, including Mr. Vijayakumar K.M., State President of CySI; Mr. Balu Swaminathan, State Secretary of CySI; and Dr. Uma Shankar, President of the newly launched Coimbatore Chapter. Distinguished guests, academicians, and cyber experts participated in the program, which featured insightful sessions on emerging issues in cyberspace.
Key highlights included:

• Mr. Balu Swaminathan, Secretary of CySI, delivered an impactful address on “Shifting Mindsets in Cybersecurity”, emphasizing the importance of behavioral transformation in digital safety practices.
• Mr. Harikrishnan, former General Manager of the Reserve Bank of India, offered valuable perspectives on combating financial fraud, educating the audience on common scams and practical safeguards.
• Mr. Vijayakumar K.M., CySI President, presented an overview of contemporary cybercrime trends, highlighting the three most prevalent cyber offenses, the rising threat of deepfake technology, and essential security tips for both individuals and organizations.

The event drew over 100 attendees, including retired police officers, advocates, faculty from Anna University, law students, and members from NGOs such as the Computer Society of India and Voice of Voiceless, alongside students from Erode Law College.Looking ahead, the Coimbatore Chapter will lead a series of initiatives including workshops, public outreach programs, and collaborative capacity-building activities with educational institutions , furthering CySI’s commitment to a cyber-aware Tamil Nadu.
