A Cyber Crime Awareness Session was conducted by Mr. Balu Swaminathan, President – Cyber Society of India (CySI), as part of the Shakti Scholars initiative under the theme “Empower Through Awareness & Wellbeing.”The session focused on building cyber safety awareness, digital resilience, and responsible online behavior. Around 40 young women scholars participated with enthusiasm.

Mr. Balu Swaminathan used a PowerPoint presentation featuring real-life cases, motivational insights, and legal awareness. Key topics included:

  • Online frauds, phishing, and social media exploitation
  • Cyberstalking, impersonation, and deepfake risks
  • Safe management of personal and financial data

  • Change your mindset, not your mood — ignore indecent or morphed images.
  • Never react, always reflect — treat deepfakes as illusions.
  • Uphold digital dignity — wisdom lies in restraint and composure.

2. Case Study – Suhas Katti v. Tamil Nadu (2004)

  • India’s first conviction under the IT Act showed how courage and timely reporting ensure justice.
  • Demonstrated that while criminals may cross boundaries, victims and the law have jurisdiction.

Participants were encouraged to share further queries with the speaker via email or WhatsApp. Mr. Balu Swaminathan’s session effectively instilled confidence and awareness among young women to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. It resonated perfectly with the Global Adjustments Foundation’s mission.

“When you champion a woman, she will build a nation.”
